Companionship care at home from Happiest at Home is different from a standard care visit. It’s not just about ticking tasks off a list. It’s about finding the right person. Someone your loved one will actually look forward to seeing, and building a real, consistent relationship over time.

We match you with a dedicated CarePal: someone chosen not just for their experience, but for their personality, their warmth, and the way they connect with people.

Who is companionship care for?

Companionship care is a good fit if you or your loved one:

  • Lives alone and has fewer social connections than before
  • Has lost a partner, close friend or neighbour and is feeling the gap
  • Is in the early stages of dementia or cognitive decline and benefits from familiar, reassuring company
  • Has become less confident about going out or doing things they used to enjoy
  • Has family who care deeply but can’t always be there as often as they’d like
  • Simply wants some regular, friendly company — and someone to do things with, not just for them

You don’t need a medical need to have a CarePal. Sometimes the most important thing is simply having someone there.

What your CarePal can help with

Every companionship package is shaped around the person — but here’s a sense of what a CarePal might do:

  • Conversation and company
a proper chat, over a cup of tea, with someone who listens
  • Getting out and about
a walk, a trip to the shops, a visit to a garden centre or café
  • Shared activities
reading together, puzzles, crafts, cards, watching a favourite programme
  • Light outings
attending a local group, a place of worship, a community event
  • Gentle encouragement
helping someone stay connected to the things they enjoy, at their own pace
  • Familiar routines
arriving at the same time, in the same way, so the day has shape and something to look forward to
  • Practical support alongside
helping with small tasks naturally, as part of the visit, not instead of the visit

For families: peace of mind from a distance

If you’re a son, daughter or partner arranging companionship care for someone you love, you know the particular worry of not being able to be there every day. You want to know that the person visiting is kind, reliable and genuinely present — not just going through the motions.

With Happiest at Home, you’re part of the matching process. You tell us what matters. We find someone who fits. And once care starts, you’ll know when visits happen and how they went — so you can feel confident even when you’re not there.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a standard home care visit?

Companionship care is focused on relationship and wellbeing, not just tasks. Your CarePal is chosen for their character and compatibility — not just their availability. The aim is for visits to feel like something to look forward to, not just a service to receive.

Will my loved one always see the same person?

Yes — that’s the whole point. We’re continuity-led. Your dedicated CarePal will visit regularly, so a real relationship can develop. If frequency is very high, we may recommend a small consistent team to protect continuity.

Can a CarePal also help with practical tasks?

Absolutely. Companionship and light practical support often go hand in hand. If your loved one needs some help alongside company, we’ll factor that into the package from the start.

What if the match isn’t quite right?

Tell us early. We’ll work with you to adjust and, where needed, find a better fit. Getting the match right matters to us as much as it does to you.

Is this available in my area?

We match clients to CarePals across the UK. Get in touch and we’ll confirm availability in your area quickly.

“I live alone and have huge anxiety and self-confidence problems. I have suffered with this horrible condition for my whole adult life and it’s so bad that I struggle to leave the house.

I heard about Happiest at Home and contacted them, as I desperately needed to get out of the house at least once a week to get some fresh air, have a chat and make a new friend.

I now have my Carepal who is called Amanda, she is lovely and takes me out in her car to places like the beach. I should have done this 30 years ago, I have missed out on so much!”
