Discussing a person-centred support brief

carepal with identification

Start with the individual’s wishes, communication preferences, routines and the exact support activities required. Keep the person involved in the matching decision, with appropriate professional or family support.

Before a referral

  • Confirm the support postcode, proposed hours and planned timing.
  • Separate everyday tasks from personal-care, medication and specialist duties.
  • Establish each party’s contractual and service responsibilities.
  • Request evidence relevant to the role, safeguarding and information sharing.
  • Discuss what happens if needs or worker availability change.

Matching and service responsibilities

Happiest at Home helps source and match CarePals. Matching, the delivery of personal care and the direction of regulated activities are distinct roles. Before proceeding, ask who you will contract with, who will deliver and direct each activity, and what registration is required for that activity, organisation and UK nation.

Requests involving personal care, medication or specialist duties require a separate scope and suitability check. Ask for current contracts and evidence of the checks relevant to the proposed role.

Choice and continuity

The individual and professional can review suitable profiles and meet potential CarePals before support starts. We aim for a dedicated CarePal, or a small consistent team where appropriate. Availability, timescales, absence arrangements and responsibilities must be agreed for the specific brief. The same worker cannot be guaranteed for every visit.
